Stolen NuNet Key Minted 408.5M NTX in Fetch.ai Theft
A compromised NuNet private key was used to mint 408. 5 million NTX tokens, with the receiving wallet identified as the same address linked to a separate $1.
A compromised NuNet private key was used to mint 408.5 million NTX tokens, with the receiving wallet identified as the same address linked to a separate $1.55 million theft from the Fetch.ai ecosystem, according to CryptoSlate reporting.
Stolen key exploited to mint 408.5 million NTX
The attack vector was a stolen signing key, which gave the attacker minting privileges over the NTX token contract. Using that access, the exploiter created 408.5 million NTX and directed the newly minted supply to a single wallet. Minting from a compromised key bypasses any market-facing mechanism, meaning the tokens entered circulation without any corresponding buy pressure or treasury movement. This mirrors the mechanics of similar key-compromise incidents, such as the Liquid Network exploit that minted 3,998 L-BTC through a comparable signing-authority breach. In both cases, the attacker’s leverage was control over issuance, not a smart contract bug. For related coverage, see Bitcoin Nears $86,000, Erasing $86B U.S. Spot ETF Paper Loss.
Wallet connection to the $1.55 million Fetch.ai theft
On-chain investigators identified the destination wallet as the same address previously associated with a $1.55 million theft from Fetch.ai, per the CryptoSlate report. The wallet linkage is an investigative lead: it establishes that the same actor, or at minimum the same address, appears in both incidents. It does not by itself confirm identity or intent.
The significance of this connection is practical. A wallet already holding proceeds from a prior $1.55 million theft now also controls a large, freshly minted NTX balance. That creates concentrated selling pressure risk: if the attacker moves to liquidate, the newly minted supply could hit exchanges with little warning. Projects facing similar wallet-level theft scenarios have historically seen token prices react sharply on any large deposit to a known exchange address.
Signals to monitor on-chain
The key on-chain indicator to watch is whether the flagged wallet initiates transfers toward exchange deposit addresses. A large NTX deposit to any centralized exchange would signal an imminent liquidation attempt and would be visible on Etherscan before any exchange-side action occurs.
NuNet’s response, including whether the team has paused the minting contract, revoked the compromised key, or coordinated with exchanges to flag the wallet, has not been confirmed in available sources at time of writing. NTX holders should monitor the NuNet official blog for any contract-level mitigation announcement.
The Fetch.ai connection also raises the question of whether the same attacker has been active across multiple AI-sector token projects. Investigators tracing the movement of stolen funds through mixing or bridging services may find further links between the two incidents.
